Collection: VGT Actuators

Common Symptoms of Failure
When a VGT actuator malfunctions or binds up, it typically triggers highly noticeable drivability problems:
  • Severe Loss of Power & Lag: The turbo gets stuck in one position, causing sluggish low-end response or poor top-end acceleration.
  • Exhaust Brake Malfunction: On heavy-duty applications (like the Cummins 6.7L), a bad actuator can stop the exhaust brake from activating entirely.
  • Excessive Exhaust Smoke: Black smoke typically pours out due to an incorrect air-to-fuel balance when the engine demands fuel but airflow remains restricted.
  • Inconsistent or Fluctuating Boost: The boost gauge may jump erratically, under-boost, or dangerously over-boost.
  • Diagnostic Trouble Codes (CEL): The vehicle will trigger specific communication or performance faults (e.g., U010C, P00AF, or P003A on Holset systems)
